…the social abilities of laterborns may be important…in athletics.  Although the laterborn may be directed toward an interest in sports because he could not compete with his academically achieving older sibling, his success in team sports may be enhanced by his ability to participate in cooperative group situations.  Firstborns are less likely to engage in body-contact sports, where there is a prospect of physical injury.
